Composer, Ethnographic Musicologist, Public Speaker, Researcher & Teacher
Welcome
Welcome to Chris at the Piano. I am convinced that music education holds the key not just to unlocking your full potential, but also to finding your own unique musical voice.
As a passionate music education facilitator, I am dedicated to helping you discover the incredible world of music and learn how to use that voice to express yourself musically, particularly in those moments when words simply fail.
My own journey is one of continuous exploration, wearing hats as a Composer, Ethnographic Musicologist (with interests spanning microtonal and ethnic music), Researcher, Multi-instrumentalist, and Teacher.

My academic foundation, including a Grade 8 LCM Piano (distinction), Grade 7 Theory, CT ABRSM, DipLCM(TD), ALCM(TD), LLCM(TD), and an MA(Mus)(Open) in Musicology, informs my unique approach. This broad perspective, including a fascination with concepts like the circle of fifths and the origins of music, is woven into the Triquetrae Teaching Programme.

I developed the Triquetrae Programme to offer a truly comprehensive musical education, one that not only builds technical skill and theoretical understanding but also empowers you to find personal meaning and expression through music.

What is an Ethnographic Musicologist?
An ethnographic musicologist is someone who studies music in relation to the culture and society that produces it. They use methods such as fieldwork, historical research, and comparative analysis to understand how music reflects and shapes human experiences, values, and identities. Ethnographic musicologists are interested in all kinds of music, from traditional folk songs to popular genres, and from different regions and communities around the world. They often work as researchers, educators, or consultants in various fields related to music and culture.
